Dennis has been Glum

Dennis has had a bad week. Life is usually black and white for Dennis without compromise or grey areas. Black moods, white hot rages, followed by exhaustion and many many naps. Dennis fell off the sofa twice this week while napping, and hissed at the sofa, as it must have been the sofa's fault. Dennis didn't get fed as often as he wanted, his tantrums were ignored, and Chedwick, cheerful as ever, (La La La ) drove Dennis crazy with his friendliness ~ but there was nothing he could do, as he discovered this week that Ched is no longer afraid of him and will stand up to his bullying every time. Dennis also discovered the humans were not all that interested in his tantrums and screams and can actually sleep through them. Dennis had to schmooze the humans big time and accept that Ched was sort of alpha cat this week. This grey area of getting along with others is a zone Dennis is slowly exploring, very glumly.

Oh Dennis - we have decided, we like you A LOT!

Mom has saved a pic of you onto the laptop, h'mm, wonder what she is going to do with it?

We just LOVE your blog!

I am 9. Pyewacket is one and Trixie is 4.

Mom is younger than Madonna.

Poor Dennis.

He and Elmo are in the same leaky boat.

I think Elmo would rather sink down to the bottom of the sea than compromise, be kind, and bail out.

Elmo has no problem getting along with others on his own terms. And his terms are basically: Stay the hell away from me. Stay out of my personal space. Don't touch me unless I ask to be touched. Don't play with my toys. Don't eat my food. Don't do anything unless I give the say so first.

Elmo was born grumpy and selfish and needyclingylovemeandonlymememe.

Bob was born happy and selfless and bighearted enough to love every cat and human being in the world.

It's a very yin yang thing thang.

They were clearly meant for each other.

It doesn't matter how much Elmo hates Bob; Bob loves Elmo anyway.

I think we could all use a Bob (or a Chedwick) in our lives.

Someone (or something) that loves us despite all of our flaws and failings.

Poor Dennis - we all have to compromise and accommodate! I am abandoning my SS leave her to write her boring thesis in grey, wet Sydney while I live it up in beautiful Italy! Power to the kitty!

A message for Dennis:

1) the grey area you describe comes more naturally to herringbone cats than to members of the all black/all white and/or mixed felines.
2) hissing at the sofa is a good displacement activity whereas
3) hissing at the humans doesn't improve the rations.
4) Getting along with others is often a pain.
5) Alphas come. Alphas goe. Dennis remains Dennis.

I almost feel sorry for Dennis, but I know better.

Dennis you must somehow find your way to being kind to others and accepting les facts: the world you must share with others, and to have your rights, first you must protect all kitties and peoples rights, it is a big world and you cannot come first when you have much work to do on your personality. you cannot hiss and then make les excuses. Le sofa it is bad. You cannot be so emptyhead as that. I have hopes for you to be smarter than this.

Oh Dennis, it has been a trying week, indeed. Have you tried giving the bitey? This works in many situations of uncertainty.

dennis said...

Dennis has never given the bitey to anyone except Mr. Mole and Mr. Mouse. Dennis is afraid to put the bitey on people or Chedwick because they might not love Dennis anymore. Dennis needs the love.

Dennis, it's such a shame that you're not allowed outside.... but think of it this way.... the sofa isn't allowed ouside either.

oh sweet dennis.... sometimes sofas can be so darned nasty!

and what is grey anyway? just a little black and a little white mingling together. mingling is fun.

it's okay to give ched a turn playing alpha cat....you'll be back at the top of the hill in no time.

tsuki told me to tell you that at least you didn't have your fur shaved off (although tsuki is strutting around right now like hot stuff, so we think he really likes the new look)

mouse loves dennis.

About that grey area of getting along with others...I'm in there too! Only with me it's work related. I'm pretty glum also. *Sigh*...what to do...

Normally I would say forget the gray zone and continue on with the black and white as that's worked so well for you in your past. However, since you say you need the love, I suggest kittie therapy. Good luck figuring all this out!

That sofa really behaves bad ! How did it dare to push Dennis from itself ? My Arthur, when he sleeps he sleeps I am sure he wouldn't even notice when he would fall off the sofa ! When I make my bed I move him from one place to the other until the bed is made and he doesn't even open an eye !
Happy to meet you ! I like your Dennis stories !

Hi Dennis. Thanks for the compliments on my fur. The spot you mention is my Mommie's favourite too. She has to kiss me on that spot all the time "cause it's just soo darn cuuute". She's a little weird.......Love your Bloggie!

oh Dennis! I saw at Daisy's you were having a tough week. I think a few claws to the sofa will teach it a lesson.
If your beans have adjusted to noises at night, to get attention a good way to get them up is the 3am walk across the bladder. I hope this helps. Cheer up buddy!
I don't have a sibling to whap, but my evil alter ego gets me in troubl a lot and I don't like that.

dennis said...

Dennis likesto do the 3am head walk, hair pull. but they go right back to sleep!

I'm sorry you're so glum, Dennis. I hope things get better for you.

We have a question - are you related to D. Chedwick Bryant? Because we are confused.

Love,
Tazo

dennis said...

Pod--that had to hurt, but Dennis is sure it was 'an accident' even if it seemed intentional. Dennis hopes you have got your cat scratch fever shots.

Tazo, Dennis lives with d. Chedwick. he is my adopted brother.

Here's the Witzel-Kat Song (sung atonally whenever the Need Arises):

First the kissin'
Then the hissin'
Then the fightin'
Then the bitin'
Then the dashin'
Before the crashin'

(At least, that's the way Joss and Kiz and Sput do...these days, it's lots more kissin' and much less hissin', but change comes slow.)

dennis, you are adorable and you have my deepest sympathies re the bad, bad sofa!
My cat Coco has a peculiar trick with her sofa. She will stretch along the back and then pour herself down the side in a long, black, furry stream until her head touches the floor.
She is very strange.
Cats are strange.
But wonderful.
