by Langston Hughes
I could take the Harlem night
and wrap around you,
Take the neon lights and make a crown,
Take the Lenox Avenus busses,
Taxis, subways
And for your love song tone their rumble down.
Take Harlem's heartbeat,
Make a drumbeat,
Put it on a record, let it whirl,
And while we listen to it play,
Dance with you till day---
Dance with you my sweet brown Harlem girl.

Langston is a true cool cat. A perfect poem for a cool cat blog. I will be tuning into what poetry Tickles and Saturn - the cats of York Street love. I think Tickles likes e.e. cummings.
Can never do wrong, even for a cat to read some LH! ; )
And Thanks for taking the time to peruse my blog and the "non story" story in Chi town. Which, is every town USA these days. ; (
Who knew Dennis was a Harlem culture aficionado?
sweet and perfect for dennis.
Dennis you are so cool. Langston Hughes is one of my top five favorite poets. Excellent choice - great pic, too. I salute you!
Hi Dennis, are you familiar with the children's book author and illustrator Bryan Collier? He is actually the first person to introduce me to the works of Langston Hughes. Sometimes I marvel at how sheltered this boy from LI was (is). Thanks for a great choice. MEOW.
